Biometry of Trypanosoma vivax found in a calf in the state of Maranhão, Brazil Ciência Rural
Guerra,Rita de Maria Seabra Nogueira de Candanedo; Feitosa Júnior,Assuero Batista; Santos,Hamilton Pereira; Abreu-Silva,Ana Lúcia; Santos,Ana Clara Gomes dos.
Blood samples from cattle presenting signs of anemia, lethargy, weakness and general weight loss were collected. Trypanosoma vivax was detected in the blood smears of a calf. This paper reports the first recorded occurrence of T. vivax in the state of Maranhão, northeastern region of Brazil, and provides the biometrical data of the parasite.

Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Carvalho,A.U.; Abrão,D.C.; Facury Filho,E.J.; Paes,P.R.O.; Ribeiro,M.F.B..
A cow from Igarapé city, Minas Gerais state, Brazil, showing vision damage was referred at the Veterinary Hospital of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Clinical examination revealed anemia and a flagellated protozoan was observed in the blood smears obtained from the animal. The morphometric analysis demonstrated that the protozoan was Trypanosoma vivax. This is the first report of T. vivax occurrence in Minas Gerais state. An epidemiological investigation is currently being conducted on the farm and neighbor areas in order to estimate the parasite prevalence and the distribution of this trypanosomiasis in the region.

Background: This study was conducted in response to recurring reports from eastern Sudan of camel trypanosomosis that can no longer be treated by currently available trypanocidal drugs. One hundred and eighty-nine blood samples were obtained from camels in different herds and local markets in the western part of Sudan, and a cross-sectional study was carried out between December 2015 and February 2016 to identify the causative agents and possible circulating genotypes. Results: The prevalence of trypanosomes detected using the conventional parasitological techniques of Giemsa-stained blood smears, wet blood smears and the microhematocrit centrifugation technique (MHCT) was 7% (13/189), 11% (21/189) and 19% (36/189), respectively. However, a multi-species...

Okaiyeto, S.O; Danbirni, S; Allam, L; Salisu, I; Pewan, S.B; Abubakar, U.B; Kudi, A.C.
A study was carried out to assess the effect of mixed infection of Trypanosoma vivax and Fasciola spp. in an intensively managed dairy farm. Twenty lactating Friesian cows were screened, 25% (5/20) had concurrent infections of T. vivax and Fasciola spp., while 20% (4/20) had mixed infections of T. vivax and strongyle infection, 15% (3/20) had mixed infections of Theileria mutans and strongyle infection. Only 10% (2/20) has single infection of T. vivax and T. mutans respectively. Anemia, submandibular edema, reduce milk production emaciation and epiphora are the major clinical signs presented by the animals.
